Hi everyone,
Arrived into Darwin airport at the ungodly hour of 4.30am. After a long delay at customs (Paul's straw hat had to be scrutinized by quarantine - no joke!), we managed to find a taxi in the carpark which was basically a building site to make our way to the city to find our hostel to get some sleep. Arrived to find that they had no copy of our reservation and were in the process of evicting three guys. Patience was very thin at this stage, finally they "upgraded" our room - it was a dive! Decided to get some sleep as things would seem better in the morning. Not so, am afraid, Darwin is basically a small country town in the Northern territory, miles and miles away from anywhere with very little to do in it. You can walk around the town in ten minutes. Our main reason for going there was to go out to the National parks of Kakadu and Litchfield for a couple of days so we headed to the tourist office to be told that a cyclone had hit a few weeks ago and all roads were flooded and there was no way out!! Oh dear, there was no way we were going to stay in Darwin for our scheduled five days so made our way to the local Quantas office, where we brought all our Australian flights forward a couple of days. Actually worked out well because it gave us more time in Australia and meant we could fit Melbourne into our plans. Left Darwin on the 4th May to fly to Alice Springs...

Love Lisa and Paul x

P.S No photos, we were not there long enough...
