Pismo Beach Monday 29th October  2100

Tricky day today because of FOG.  October is a fog-free month along this coast, except for today when it’s been very foggy.  This is deeply annoying to us as we have missed the fine sea views right down highway 1 from Monterey.  We got a bout 45minutes of fine views then the fog clamped in and left us feeling rather cross.  We went to Hearst Castle which is a must-see.

The good news was that at higher altitude no fog, but the castle really is quite a let down other than the gardens which were beautiful.  The castle is a glorified Butlins, a concrete shell clad in expensive items bought in from Europe.  The general vandalism of old artifacts is quite stunning, 14th century baptistery doors cut down to size to fit as bathroom doors being but one example.

Better news came tonight as we swung off highway 1 to find our hotel 20 yards from the turn-off.  Better still the local fish restaurant was serving lots of cheap specials and bottles of wine at half-price.  We have over-indulged at a a ridiculously low price.  And folks we really don’t care!

Free wi-fi but very slow so no pictures
