Make the most of this entry because you will not hear from us again until next Wednesday as long as broadband has penetrated Laos.

We are safely housed with our friends in Christchurch and our hire car has been returned.  We clocked nearly 5,000kilometres in this car.  We are now enjoying home comforts before starting our private tour in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, finishing with a beach resort at Lankawi in Malaysia.  We fly out of here next Tuesday.

Leaving NZ will be hard, very hard, this is a beautiful country with a decent society living within it.  We must retune our minds to taking anti-malaria tablets, watch what we eat and drink and generally tune into the tropical heat again.

So how to end?  Well our day with the dolphins etc was marvellous and I shot 327 frames that day.  I have just finished sorting that lot down to a decent 40 or so.  We also met some more seals basking on rocks so there are a few of those as well.

The pictures I'm adding highlight that day and the last two sum up this country.  They were both taken on route 1 as we drove south to Christchurch on a peerless summer day, temp' about 30deg' C.  the railway picture may puzzle you but it demonstrates that road and rail here often have no choice but to follow the same route.
