Where I stayed
After a really good flight with LAN through NY (where we spent our layover time at a pub called Shannons), we arrived a little groggy in Lima at about 6:30 am. No sign of anyone from our hostel who were supposed to pick us up, but after waiting a couple hours and calling them, we finally got picked up. The hostel was very apologetic & upgraded our room, so in the end no big deal for waiting.
We stayed in a newer area of Lima called Miraflores, much cleaner and tranquilo vs. the old part. It was close to the ocean, so we spent some some time the first day walking around the boardwalk which was very modern and well -groomed. Just bascially walked around that area of town, through parc amore (awwwww) and for dinner found "Pizza Street" where there are tons of restaurants (lots of pizza ones) that try to lewer you in. That night we tried a dish called ceviche very tyipcal of Lima that is white fish (raw) chopped up in lots of lemon, cilantro, red onion....very very yummy.
The next day we headed to the old town. Very interesting - old squares and buildings, but tons of traffic and pollution to the point where it was even a bit hard to breath. We did a tour at the museum of Spanish Inquisition ( en espaņol which was fun) but almost impossible to follow with the accent! That night, coincidentally we met up with one of Mike's schoolmates, Julian and his wife Maca who were in Lima on business. They took us to an awesome traditional Peruvian restaurant and we had amazing food (almost like Peruvian tapas).
The next day we were heading off to Cusco...
