Hotel El Viajero

We had a middle of the road experience travelling back into Guatemala, we did not get to see dolphins on the way nor did we end up completely soaked from head to toe.   Livingston, although part of Guatemala is distinctly different from the rest of the county. Its got a strong Garifuna influence, so think Caribbean rastafari in both look and feel. well, not completely but kinda.  So we arrive in town and head to a hostel we been recommended to stay at, eventually found it but did not like the place much and decided to continue looking. That was when we finally came upon a system we should have used ages ago. We got chatting to one of the local street vendors and asked him about cheap accommodation in town and that's how we ended up staying at a lovely establishment on the edge of the river a few days,Hotel el Viajero. Should definitely be doing that more often.  After getting acclimatised being back in Guatemala 6 months after we left we went exploring and visited the main hostel in town to try and figue out why they are so popular
we hung out there for a while and decided to join their tour of the river the very next day called Reggae on the River.  mmmm, hope they gonna have good tunes.

so the next morning we head off bright and early, 9:45, looking forward to the days adventure. We spend the rest of the day socializing, swimming in the river, visiting a local school, and a few other river attractions. A pleasant day indeed.

We ran into Julia and Carli (Londoners we met in San Ignacio, Belize) and enjoyed a lovely traditional seafood lunch which consisted of a whole crab, a whole fish, prawns, some shellfish and other random bits all served in a huge soup bowl, with rice on the side. yum.

All to soon we were ready to move on tho. somehow the town did not quite do it for us, not sure exactly what it was but on the 3rd day we left. there was a whole section of the town we did not explore but by that time we had lost interest. no biggie. Our travel route has since changed as well, thanx to the friendly folk at Casa De La Iguana hostel, so we decided to head to Punta Barrios instead of up the river to Rio Dulce. That's because its easier to catch a bus back to Guatemala city and then on to Antigua.

Lets hope is all goes according to plan.
