Where I stayed
Don't mind us, just passing through
Suzie Q just rolled through this town like a tumbleweed. Nothing much to see, we just stopped for petrol and moseyed on.
But what was entertaining about journey throughout Baja was the countless times we were stopped at the checkpoints. Dee became the self-appointed translator dealing with the heavily-armed military police. The conversation was always the same - Where are you from? Where are you headed? Are you here for work or tourism?
Mario seemed to intrigue them more than Noel and I. They wanted to know: Is he local? Cuban? American? Twice they double-checked his nationality and once they asked to see his passport to check that we were telling the truth. They didn't seem to believe that he really can't speak much Spanish, especially after he responded to one of their questions.
So which is it? Racial or moustache profiling?!
