In preparation Mr T got all cleared out, cleaned up one last time and posed for his photoshoot. He was ready to put his best tyre forward. He got regular pep-talks and we fretted each time he coughed or wheezed just a little. Next we ran up and down the hills of Auckland posting ads on the noticeboards of Auckland backpackers, hitting about all the big ones and a few obscures
Slowly the calls started to come in, mostly from backpackers. Everyone who meets charismatic Mr T loves him but apparently not enough to stop looking. So after 5 days we tried the Sunday Car Fair at Ellerslie Racecourse. Despite the intermittent rain there was a decent turnout. We exercised our rusty sales skills giving a solid pitch. Mr T put on a good show, starting first time every time, not bad for a 22 year old! But all the offers were way under what were willing to accept... at that point anyway. But at least there was interest!
After 5 separate viewings a Frenchman called Guillame (a fellow baldie) said he was keen to take Mr T on one condition. He'd been bitten once before with a van that required costly repairs so this time he wanted to do a mechanical check! We cringed a bit, hoping that no new ailments come to light. Mr T passed with flying colours! Aside from needing a service and replacing a couple of almost smooth tyres, Mr T was ready to do the rounds of NZ one more time!
It was sad to say goodbye but we're glad he found a new home with another traveller. Or rather he's providing a new home for another traveller. Giving him away to a dealer would be like dumping a puppy at the pound! They wouldn't love him as we did, they'd just use him for profit.
Mr T rides again! Kap aan, Guillame!! :-)
