We spend a few chilled days at this friendly backpackers mainly because of the friendly owner, Ian, and our BFFNs (see the previous entry), Sophie and Paul from England. The weather was very changeable - rain one minute, and sunshine the next. Frustrating if you're deciding what to do that day, but rewarding if you all you really want to do is chill at the fireplace or marvel at the array of rainbows that those conditions inevitably produce. There's no much to the town of Turangi but it's a homely base for visiting the geothermal region and for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
And that's exactly what we did.
