Further up the coast they were afflicted by the same rainfall, so much so that many sections of the coastal road were closed due to flooding. Detour time :( The downside of the shoulder season!

As it was Mother's day we were on a mission to find a landline or internet connection so E.T. could call home. We hadn't had mobile phone coverage for days, since Invercargill, in fact. So we drove and drove throughout the soaked Catlins and finally struck it lucky in Owaka. A browser-free VOIP phone, no less. Mission accomplished! All was well in the world again :-D

Turns out we had the place all to ourselves! Well, there was a self-contained campervan but the oldies didn't surface till morning. So it was like chilling at Leezworld (our London house) except... not.

We realised that we actually missed home comforts. We miss chilling in our OWN living room, reclined on our leather sofa wrapped in Slanky, whiling away the time in front of our OWN big screen TV. Again next morning I was reminded of what it used to be like spending unrushed
time in the kitchen by myself, indulging in experimental cooking/baking (it's always experimental with me ;-) and listening to talk radio. Pancakes for breakfast!

In fact, we've noticed a pattern emerge. We've inadvertently slipped into a routine of sorts: Monday to Friday we're on the road - going places, exploring, snapping pics, doing touristy stuff - as if it's our day job. Then on the weekends we find a cosy hostel where we chill and socialise with (new) friends, just like we used to on the weekends in London.

What creatures of habit we are!
