A series of one-horse towns led us to Harihari, yet another one-horse
town. Nothing memorable to report except for shockingly bad service at
the Bushman's centre (?) in Pukekura opposite the Pukepub (too easy!).
The unfriendly staff didn't even acknowledge us, let alone greet us!
So much for Kiwi hospitality. The place only exists because of passing
tourists but not judging from their behaviour. Tut-tut! Ok, rant over.
Good thing we didn't blink as we passed through Harihari or we might
have missed the turn-off at the end of town. 20km later on a gravel
road we arrived at the start of the Harihari coastal walkway. Mr T
weasled a little further between the whitebaiting sheds to discover a
great spot on the riverbank.
It turned out to be a very special night: bug-free, cooking on an open
fire, clear night sky, full moon, a trillion stars, pondering the
mysteries of life.
