**WARNING:  This entry is bogful of toilet humour. Proceed at your own risk**

Thusfar we've toured the Northland, the region of the North Island just above Auckland. Aside from the scenic beauty (the pics say it all) we noticed that many places tend to have Maori names. During an excursion to a traditional village we learnt that chief Rewa went to England way back when to create a written form of the Maori language. Until that point it was only spoken. This explains why it's so easy for English-speakers to read and pronounce Maori words.

This is ALSO why so many town names sound particularly funny to us in comparison to their nearest English equivalent. Needless to say, this provides hours of entertainment for us juveniles. Back in the UK all we have to work/play with is Prattsbottom and Cockfosters! ;-D

For example, we happened upon the oddest place in Kerikeri. The place where puke falls. I always wondered about that? It sounds disgusting but seriously, that is what it's called: Wharepuke Falls. Quite a sight to behold!

Another town poses the question: Why Poo? (spelt Waipu). A very valid question, indeed. It just seems like such a WASTE! What would happen if we didn't? Perhaps we would implode? Or maybe it'll come out the other end and we'll be right back where we started. At that special place where puke falls.

Excretion seems to be an obsession in these parts. Yet another town boasts about its urination experience: What a wee-wee! (spelt Whatuwhiwhi). Enough information already! And don't even get me started on Urinui! No, you're a urine newey!

Now you might be thinking Whatawhata? Or perhaps that I'm talking Kaka? And you'd be right; those are town names too!

This entry might cause offence to you but hopefully it doesn't really Matamata. I wouldn't want you to express your witty anger(Whitianga) at me! Cos then I might need to send my Whakapapa after you!

Here's hoping for plenty more hours of amusement as we head down south...
