It might just be an expression but I can't help being a little annoyed (sometimes more than a little) when people tell us how "lucky" we are to be doing this trip. There! I said it!

If you really believe that, you obviously don't know us very well...

Don't you realise how saying that disregards and devalues all the efforts and energy that has gone into making this happen? Our actions for the last many years have been engineered to get us to this point!

Granted - careful planning and organising have never been our preferred course but the Lees make things happen! That's the legend of the Lees, and we're living it. When we say we're gonna do things, we do it. "Luck" plays no part!

Here ends the rant.

On a positive note though, the implication of this for you is... that just like we made it happen, so can you! Assuming that's what you want, of course. No need to wait and hope that one day you too might become "lucky" ;-p

I might not believe in "luck" but I do believe in serendipity because it happens to me all the time. It's a very hard concept to define and explain, and apparently one of the top 10 hardest words to translate. (Someone on) Wikipedia calls it "the propensity for making fortunate discoveries while looking for something unrelated" and Psychology Today have identified five principles to "make your own luck". I'm still working on my definition. Meanwhile please let me know what you think...

YIP you are so right... we are the only ones responsible for our destiny. Yes there are many unrelated scenarious that happen every day... but what you do with it, is what makes the difference.

www.vagabonding.net - for anyone day-dreaming, fantasizing, questioning or contemplating long-term travel, no matter how serious you are about it. A must-read. And an enjoyable one at that. Bottom line: If you want it, you can have it! Amen :)
