Summary: Back to civilisation. A few days of tender loving care from Jacinta’s cousin Siobhan and her husband Nicolas in San Jose. A day trip into San Francisco to visit Alcatraz and drive across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Shrnutí v češtině: Po několika dnech jsme se dostali zpátky do civilizace. Odpoledne a dvě noci jsme strávili u J sestřenice a její rodiny ve městě San Jose. Dostali jsme najíst, napít, vyprali jsme si, dostali se na internet, byli pozvání na večeři a zajeli si na jednodenní výlet do blízkého San Franciska. A ze San Jose jsme nakonec odletěli na Havaj.

We got there mid-day and immediately felt at home. Siobhan and Nicolas couldn’t have been lovelier and we felt an instant connection with them. Their daughter Shona even said that J and her mum looked alike. We got showered and clothes washed and internet access and were given cold drinks- even frosted margaritas - out in their lovely garden-a haven! They then made an amazing bbq with incredible steaks and salads…mmmmm…and we chatted into the night.

Next day we drove an hour into San Francisco and done a tour of Alcatraz Island (about 20min ferry crossing from Pier 33). We had booked it before we left which was lucky as it was all booked up days in advance. The weather was really hot and sunny which was apparently very rare for San Francisco at this time of year. The views were great and the tour interesting (free audio tour). We got back to the mainland and had lunch of clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl and fish and chips at the famous Fisherman’s Wharf/Pier 39. The cable car that climbs the very steep hills is another main tourist activity but the queues were an hour long so we just walked it up to Lombard Street- a crazy street that zigzags down a steep hill. J drove from there over the Golden Gate Bridge to the nature area on the other side- this was really worthwhile and highly recommended as the view across the bay was among the best we’d ever seen.

M drove back across the bridge to San Jose and the Doyles took us to dinner in the Cheesecake Factory where we had an incredible meal. J had what looked like the biggest salad in the world and M devoured a ginormous steak. We tried Dr. Pepper (cherry cola), Root beer (which tasted like Vicks) and a delicious pomegranate mojito. Siobhan bought a selection of the famous cheesecakes to take away and we ate them at home, chatted and said goodbyes before bed. The past few days at Siobhan and Nic’s have been so relaxing and rejuvenating for us and we are indebted to them for their kindness and hospitality. We were sorry to leave them but hopefully they’ll visit us sometime in Prague so we can try to pay them back.

We left early the next morning for a short drive to San Jose airport, returned our beloved car and boarded our 5 hour flight to Honolulu on Oahu Island. Our netbook is completely caput so we’ll try to buy a new one in Hawaii.

P.S.S. J*, pokud už umíš česky natolik dobře,
