Travel day today. We are moving on from our beautiful Vancouver house to Vancouver Island for another week of fun with the Cheyne Grandparents.

Action stations from 6am to get everyone up, packed, dressed, and fed, for a 7.15am leave in our two taxis - challenge one completed!

We arrive in plenty of time to collect our hire car. Emma smooths out a few problems re vehicle return and charges. We pack our numerous black bags into our hire car easily - a Dodge 7 seater Caravan, and set off in good time - challenge two completed!

The journey to the ferry terminal should take between 30 and 45 minutes and we are chugging along quite nicely until we grind to a rather concerning halt. We are still 45 minutes in advance of losing our priority booking, and a full hour and 15 mins in advance of our ferry time. No need to panic just yet. Well as it transpires a crash in a tunnel on our route holds us up for so long that we are 5 minutes after our booking has expired and the boat is full - challenge 3 failed!

First boat left at 10.15am. The next boat isn't until 12.45pm. There is a playground, and some reasonable lunch options, at the ferry terminal to keep us entertained. Taya has a ball playing with Grandad and his hat which she loves putting on and off his head.

Finally on our car ferry and straight up to the sun deck to gorp at a spectacular view of Vancouver and its mountain ranges. Emma and Grandad wander whilst Taya naps (in Grandad's hat) and take piccies. Dylan and Rich head inside to play and explore and Grandma grabs a pew and crosses her fingers its a smooth trip. Its a two hour crossing into Nanaimo ferry terminal on Vancouver Island. Pleased to arrive.

The shift of ferry means that we have a two hour drive to entertain the kiddies on, rather than driving at nap time as we'd hoped. Dylan passes out straight away, less entertaining needed until tonight probably. Taya eats and plays happily during the drive to Campbell River.

A bit of a lengthy hiccup because we can't find the house we are staying at. We know we are close but can't actually find it. The children are pretty fed up by the time we arrive, closely followed by the grumpy men, with the ladies managing to remain calm and controlled.

Grandma Lizzie has gone and done it again. The house is beautiful. It's called The Beach-house at Campbell River and its decorated as the name would suggest. Really stunning property. The best part is that the garden meets the sea! The outside space is incredible. And the view from the lounge and master bedroom is stunning, a million dollar view. Dylan is initially disappointed at the lack of playroom and cars here compared with Vancouver, but we soon sort that by creating a great play space in his new bedroom. He also enjoys swinging in the hammock in the garden. Quick tea for Taya as we are close to bedtime.

Emma and Grandad Ian head out for some groceries and drink and return with fish and chips too. Great start to our week here. Looking forward to exploring more tomorrow.
