Rich does a very early food shop. It opens at 7am, so might as well, since we are up! He lugs it all home - about 2km.
Our destination today is Granville Island. Just a shortish bus ride from our house. Grandma entertains Dylan at the bus stop with some trains that she had just popped in her pocket. Then on the bus with a book that she just happens to have popped in her handbag. That's why having a grandma around is so amazing. Dylan answers every question correctly, he needs a harder test next time.
We have a stroll around for a little bit before being lured to a playground for a quick swing and a play on the see saws. Grandma is not too keen on the see saw until she is easily persuaded by her little grandson.
Perhaps Dylan's favourite today was a mechanical construction using silver balls to demonstrate how concrete is made and used, in front of the concrete factory. We visited it twice!
We head to the public market where there are absolutely tonnes of amazing food in an indoor market. We all choose our lunch and some yummy salmon burgers, strawberries and raspberries for dinner. We spend time sitting and enjoying one of the buskers singing a variety of golden oldies and his own tunes. We send Dylan over with our money to drop into his case and to thank him. Dylan finds some little friends to run around the boardwalk with. He also, much to our surprise, likes chasing the pigeons. Dylan and Grandad have fun playing together, Dylan has certainly found a new favourite playmate.
The grandparents kindly take the little lady off for her sleep whilst Emma and Rich have some quality time with Dylan at the Kids Market. It's a warehouse building full of children's shops and play areas.
We all meet up again and then divide again, this time the girls take the children and have yummy ice creams, and the boys head to the Granville Island Brewing Company, Vancouver's first microbrewery
The favourite is a Maple Beer so they purchase a bottle each and head for home.
We head home on the bus. Poor Rich has forgotten Dylan's water bottle which he has left at the kids market so he hops of the bus and goes to retrieve it.
We get off the bus and Dylan lets Grandad know that he has been selected to play with him in the playroom. He then decides that Grandma can also play and he would like to hold both of their hands walking up the road. So sweet.
At home the children really enjoy the playroom. Dylan is straight to his trains table but ends up having Grandad read him some of the books from the house. It's so lovely that he still enjoys his books since its a long time since we have had any. He hasn't asked for his iPad books or videos once since we arrived in Vancouver. Taya plays a game with a ball with Emma, the start of playing catch. Emma would roll the ball to her, she would pick it up, have a quick chew, then push or pass the ball back to Emma. Her crawling is also making good progress. She can move across the room, still mainly on her tummy, and the effort involved is unreal. Hopefully, she will crack the easy method soon!
The evening is spent researching for the rest of our Vancouver time and doing some general trip sorting with a few G and Ts and some berries from the market.
Another top day in sunny Vancouver.
