Yummy pancakes for everyone's breakfast this morning and an early check out from our lovely hotel.

The first leg of the journey takes us to Galle (pronounced like Gall Bladder) along the south coast. Beautiful scenery as the road winds along the coastline. We pass through Mirissa which can be added to the list for another time. Brightly coloured fishing boats fill the shore and are scattered in the shallow water. We even spot one painted as a zebra which is Dylan's favourite. Further along the coast we see men fishing on stilts in the crystal clear water. The other side of the road shows houses and hotels destroyed by the Tsunami.

We arrive at Galle Fort and are all looking forward to a wander. Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle, on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. We like the guide book description of this place as it sums it up really well. The Dutch built the streets and buildings, the Sri Lankans added the colour and style, and then nature got busy covering it in a layer of vegetation, humidity and salty air. We just wandered the little streets looking in lovely shops, and picked a great café for our lunch. We bought a cushion cover with tuk tuks on it for Dylan's bedroom. He chose the colour. After a very hot half an hour looking for our van and drivers we head on to Colombo on the highway - the speed limit on this road is upped to 100kmph rather than the usual 70kmph!

3.5 hours and some good naps later we arrive at Airport Garden Hotel Colombo. For the last 45 minutes of the journey Dylan points out every tuk tuk and its colour. There are thousands of them, so we are pleased to arrive.

Manic hour or so trying to get everything ready for bedtime and prepped for our onwards flights tomorrow. Spare a thought or get those fingers crossed for us on what could be the worst travel day of the whole trip........ Up at 4am, fly 4 hours to Singapore, 7 hours at the airport, then 8 hour flight to Melbourne, then a short hop back to Adelaide to start our Oz adventure. Oh and a four hour time difference to add into the mix. Scared.
