So after a whirlwind of packing up the house and shipping ourselves out... we finally made it to Brazil yesterday evening! We flew to Lisbon and then connected to Natal and caught a taxi to Ponta Negra which is about 15 minutes south of Natal.
We are slowly taking it all in but its quite surreal.. we are a 5 minute walk from a huge long beach where it is literally bustling with life. You wouldnt believe it. You sit on the beach having a cold beer and hawkers will come past selling EVERYTHING you could imagine.. hammocks, cds, rails of clothes, wooden ships, fresh fish, paintings, sunglasses.. its just insane. All the teenage boys have converted wheelbarrows with a battery inside and a car radio on the outside as they come past blasting music and selling their copied cds.. its hilarious. The next minute a man with a wheelbarrow converted into a portable bbq comes by offering to rustle you up some prawns. Its non stop but the vibe is like no where else either of us have been. The vista is beautiful - huge expansive beach with an enormous sand dune at one end. The beach is smattered with umbrellas and loungers housing Brazilian and Portuguese holiday makers predominantly. The locals dont speak a great deal of english but we are getting by with lots of animated hand signals and with bits of spanish thrown in for good measure!! Everyone very friendly !
We are having an amazing time... ...........Brazil Rocks!!
Tomorrow we are moving on to Genipabu which is another beachy place just north of Natal as we are on a quest for the ultimate beach to chill out and take stock before getting on the serious backpacker trail!!!!
lots of love Bruce & lulu XXXXXXx
