Well Hello 2011 !!

What a turnaround we've had with lots of things in Robe.  This small seaside village has expanded by about 10,000 people.  We have been visited by lots of friends and the sun is shining!!  (Who knew??)  Even more freaky is the fact that I have just come back from a stint of boogie boarding!  Much to the children's amusement and frankly a shock to me!  But more of that later!

The Bells (family we met and spent time with in Kakadu and celebrated Melbourne cup with) arrived shortly after Christmas and spent two wonderful weeks with us.  With Fabio working most days, Chris (Daddy Bell) was keen to experience all the surf that Robe had to offer and whilst his searches ended up with his car being bogged in the soft sand on a couple of occasions, he ended up enjoying the surf at Long Beach, opposite the campsite with the children most days.

With the purchase of wet suits for the children (the water has not got warmer with the weather), everyday was a beach day.  (Not so much for me, so thanks so much Chris - they miss you already)  So when they left, the children were keen to have company in the water, so not wanting to disappoint, in went Fabio and then ME - Of course, just being in the water up to my knees was not enough.  Noooo they "Try it Mummy, try boogie boarding, try it!"  So with a deep breath and a tow from Fabio......I was riding the waves like a professional, screaming all the way.........apparently!  Hey, I'm without wet suit here too remember.  I think I made a stirling effort!

We all spent a lovely New Year together with the Bells and then a few days ago, friends from Coral Bay, Murry and Di arrived just in time to celebrate Fabio's birthday.  He had to work on the day - grim - but to cheer him on we made birthday signs and asked campers all around the campsite to put them up and sing to him whenever they saw him..and that they did. So he actually ended up having a lovely day.

A trip to Mount Gambia, saw the old Volcano crater which is now the Blue Lake.  It mysteriously turns from a winter grey colour to a brilliant azure blue in the month of November, lasting till April. This has been a mystery for many, many years...until it was finally scientifically explained to be attributed to a special algae that grows in the lake. Amazing to see.

I am looking forward to getting back on the road and even more back in the van!  Can you believe that? The house has been great, but it's not ours and whilst spacious, not homely!

Short and sweet this time......

Hope 2011 is all that you hope it to be.

Mandy, Fabio, Leila, Jack and Adam.

What a wonderful time you are having. Can we expect to see you in Perth in 2011?
I am currently sitting in a hotel on the island of Boracay, which is an hour by plane and a short boat trip from Manila. The island reminds me of a small Greek island with its pristine beaches. It has rained every day since we arrived in the Philippines, which has been a great break from the Perth heat. We seem to be the only Australians here, but we are off to Bali next week week where I know many Doubleview families are holidaying.

I love reading your blogs.
