We made our stop for the night at the magnificent Lake Argyle, which is Australia's second largest lake. It is big enough to be called an inland sea. And it is artificial, that is, the Ord River was dammed up in the early 70’s and Lake Argyle is the result. It is HUGE and I must say, quite impressive. We grabbed some lunch from the cafeteria, set up shop, and then headed to the pool. The weather has settled into a beautiful pattern. Cool nights, coldish mornings (well, you know, shorts and a long sleeved T) and then hot days perfect for swimming or sitting and reading
The pool at Lake Argyle is beautiful. It is right on the edge of the cliff overlooking the lake, it has beautiful views and has no edge on it. The water cascades off the sides like a waterfall into a catchment bay below you. The effect is that is goes off into space, or rather, the horizon with the lake behind you as the perfect backdrop. The only thing is the water in the pool was FREEZING. It was so cold I think they must have chilled it because the lake was about 8 degrees warmer, and I don’t know how. I thought Connor was exaggerating the coldness until I joined him and came up gasping for air as well. Needless to say we cooled down quickly, and spent the rest of the afternoon warming up and reading in the sun. Aaaaaahhh, what a life!
