Sunday morning we packed up, and went to the meeting in Alice. We got asked about 5 times if we were moving in! (ha ha, rent up here is astronomical, up to $1K a week for a family home).  It was great to be at a meeting after 2 weeks with just ourselves to talk to, and the brothers were very welcoming, we got hugs all round, and of course met people who knew people we knew. (Hi Min and Jord from Janet!)

We then headed to Maccas for a quick lunch, filled up the van's tank too, and headed north.  We crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, which filled me with hope, and then passed Connor Well, but couldn’t find the well.  We finished today’s measly 400kms with sunset at the Devil’s Marbles and dinner at the Wauchope Pub (said 'war-kup’).  Connor sampled his first Barra and Chips, which he devoured.  We have all had such appetites on hols, must be all the exercise!.  Up early tomorrow, 800kms to cover to take us to Mataranka, about 1 hour south of Katherine, and home to hot natural springs which I am looking forward to relaxing in tomorrow night.

To while away the hours today we counted Kites, not the ones with strings, the preying on small animals type.  We saw 43 in total.  Since our visit to the Desert Park we have become overnight experts on NT wildlife! We could even pick the difference between a Black Kite and a Whistling Kite.  We have decided that we must be adjusting to the distances quite well too, as driving 400kms in an afternoon at home would be awful, but here, it wasn’t bad at all.  Monday’s 800km is like going to work for the day.  It seems completely doable and normal and not mind numbingly boring like it would be at home (Hobart, Lonny, Hobart, Lonny, Hobart).  Maybe it’s the array of dead and living animals to count that makes it so interesting???????  The desert is still green, still puddles and small lakes everywhere, and as we head north I can’t see that it will dry out, only get greener.  We will hit croc country soon, so, if you don’t hear from us…….
