Well the course has started properly now and we have nearly finished the week already. The days have been going so quickly because we've been learning such interesting stuff and having good discussions.  This week is about the character and nature of God to get us all on the same page and see if there are any fundamental things that we don't agree on or don't understand.  Kjell (Shell) Karlsten and Peter Woode have been sharing the teaching this week which has been great.  Shell is one of the officers here and Peter does the admin for the course and some of the teaching.  They are both really clear in their teaching and insightful in their thoughts so it makes for good classes.

We have had some late arrivals in the course.  Emelie has arrived from another part of Sweden and is living here in the house with us and Sanmi (Sommy) and Larry have arrived straight from Nigeria.  They are living here in the house with us too so we're pretty much full.  It makes things a bit more lively in the sitting room, in fact at the moment I can hear them singing and playing guitar together in the other room.  We have already scored a free meal from Larry and some samples from Emelie who both like cooking.

Emelie esp likes baking so she has been helping me interpret some of the ingredient packets and telling me what they use here for what (they have no self raising flour and use powder stuff instead of vanilla essence, very confusing).  My first couple of cakes have been partial successes, it didn't help that the springform tin i was using had a big dent in the side so half the cake leaked out the bottom! In the process of trying out ingredients the packets for which I can't read I have discovered that LuLu's mum's sour cream chocolate cake actually works really well with plain flour instead of self raising, makes a nice dense tort. A happy mistake, I didn't admit to anyone that it wasn't meant to be like that so they liked it!  I made it as a surprise for one of the guys here whose daughter on the mainland turned one on tuesday.  He couldn't be there so I thought it would be nice to celebrate anyway.

Pete has discovered that a guy here called Daniel is a huge Dream Theatre fan and has been to several concerts over the years.  For those of you who don't know, the drummer from Dream Theatre has been Pete's inspriation for drumming pretty much since he started playing so he loves the band.  This guy Daniel loves them even more, in fact he described them as 'perfect', and he has 8 Dream Theatre t-shirts from various concerts he has been to.  Pete was so jealous that today Daniel gave him one to keep.  I guess he figured that one for each day of the week was enough.  The two of them also got into a heated debate with Janne (Yaanne) the other drummer here about the merits of Dream Theatre.  Fun to watch.

Pete also went over to Daniel's house the other day to play guitar hero because there is apparently a Dream Theatre song on it, but he wants to write now so here he is..... hey hey friendly readers! As Myf mentioned I was invited to go out to daniel's house (about 5 minutes outside the city wall). He had a paddock with very cold horses in about a foot of snow. At the house it was so quiet.... He showed me his replica gandalf sword and aragon sword and replica light sabres etc. it was heaps cool. truly unleashed my nerdy side.

Myf again.  So what else have we been up to...  we have been trying to go for a walk each day after class so we don't fall asleep by 4pm (its dark when we finish) so we have seen some very pretty snowy dark sights. Today we went with Emelie and Owen as well and we went walking and sliding on the frozen bits at the edges of the ocean.  We had a bit of snowball fight during which at Pete's expense Emelie demonstrated a 'Milla' which is basically when you smoosh a ball of snow into someone's face.  Rather amusing but glad it wasn't me.

So tomorrow is friday and we have a session called 'Hot Potatoes' which will be on each friday.  Peter is taking it which is pretty brave because it's a chance to bring up issues and topics that aren't easy and will spur a fair bit of debate.  Tomorrow the topics are "why does God allow suffering" and Pete's request of "Predestination". So that should be fun, esp since there are some strong opinions in the group and you all know how I love a debate.

So that's about it for now, except that there is an S2S Blog that you guys can have a look at.  The link is saved2save.wordpress.com

I think they are posting stuff in swedish and they might run it through google translator but if not you can put it through yourself if you like.  It's only just started so there aren't many posts yet but it will pick up.
