Sanur - Lembongan Island - just a 25 min trip on the early morning
public speed boat.  On arrival, we marvelled at the (female) porters,
waist deep in water, carrying huge packages and sacks on their heads
from the boats  to the "market" about 400 metres away. We hired a
couple of push bikes and off we set to the north of the island (Mangrove
Forests), passing numerous seaweed farmers with their coracle type
boats lined with polystyrene, sorting and drying their "catch" outside
their rattan, ramshackle huts
Needing to cool off, we ditched our
bikes near a beach bar . and I swam in the warm, shallow waters and then  wandered along the almost deserted beach to watch a local outrigger boat
being launched.  Getting into it was a lady with fins and I asked her
where abouts she was heading. The offer to join her was quickly accepted
by me while David decided to cycle on around the island and join me
back at the beach in an hour.  The snorkelling off the nearby reef (only
5 minutes in the boat) was very good - not as many fish as at some
other sites - but stunning coral.  On return I drank a leisurely coke
and admired the peace and tranquility of the beautiful coastline,
watched the antics of the owner's 3 yr old son bathing and didn't notice
the time ticking by.....
When David eventually returned he flung
himself into the sea to try to cool off from his "adventure" - short
version?  The bike's back wheel jammed against the frame when he was
half an hour away (about to turn round to come back) and he
carried/dragged the bike back in the midday heat.....We did a bit of
research of accommodation (as we intend to return and stay on the island
one day), watched a gamolan school practising, found a very interesting
cemetary, and got back for the boat as the rain started.

The rest of the stay was made up of good food, a few drinks, meeting up
with Neinke, lots of reading, a bit of sunbathing, watching FA Cup
football, exploring villas for rent in Sanur and excellent massages.
Well it is the wet season and you would have thought being seasoned
travellers we would have brought our telescopic umbrellas....but
no...and that's another story!
