So here we are on day 2 in Memphis.
Yesterday we visited Sun Studios where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee and many more recorded some amazing music that changed history... All the greats (and Bono) stood where we stood and although it was small, it was pretty overwhelming. The tour, allbeit brief was really cool and worth every penny.
After Sun (and some highly suspect pictures with Elvis' very own microphone from 1956) we headed down to Beale Street... What can I say about Beale?! It was INSANE. Currently Memphis is celebrating Memphis in May music festival so there are huge amounts of American tourists here soaking up the great Southern hospitality. The street itself is pretty cool and full of bars and quirky places to eat and shop. We were happy that we found a locally brewed ale called Ghost River and were pretty pissed after only having breakfast, a pint of Ghost and a Beale Big Ass Beer so we headed back to the hotel to make the call...
In the front reception of Heartbreak Hotel resides a pink fluffy diamonte phone marked 'Marlowes'. Marlowes is a pretty famous BBQ joint that was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives so we HAD to make the call. Minues later a bubblegum pink limo arrived to pick us up. Marlowes was pretty cool and the pulled pork was to die for... but me, with my typical eyes bigger than belly attitude, ordered 3 entrees... We still have doggy bags full of Southern BBQ'ed meat sat in our hotel room... On our way to Marlowes we shared our limo with two lovely ladies from Birmingham Alabama called Windy and Arwen (yes, her parents were Tolkien fans) we shared a table with 'em and after a couple of hours we were swapping facebook details.
I can only echo what Dave has said about Southern people; they're friendly, warm, caring and very helpful... much nicer than American's we've so far encountered from middle and East coast America.
After so much food and talking we crashed on the sofa in our suite. We headed to bed around 10pm and slept like babies in the giant marshmallow style bed.
So that brings us to this morning... We have our Graceland tour today and Dave hasn't stopped ranting about the sausage gravy we were served for breakfast (video attached). We're gonna head down to the hearkbreak pool for a quick swim and some sunshine...
We plan on going out in Beale Street tonight so hopefully that should provide some entertaining photos and videos which we'll post when we get a better connection.

Anyhoo, until then, y'all be good.

Sian xx
