I'm really not sure how this happened, but it seems that I am going to the deep south with my lovely wife on Friday. Why did I agree to this? I have absolutely no idea. Am I excited about going? Of course I bloody am!

When Sian first suggested it I really wasn't keen, but now I can't think of anything more perfect for the two of us to do as our honeymoon. Don't tell her I wrote this, but she does have a good idea from time to time.

I have pretty much done everything that I can do in preparation. Everything that can be packed is packed, all important documents have been printed out and placed in a folder, I have my factor 50 (yes that's right, factor 50 - I don't maintain my deathly pale complexion walking around getting skin cancer you know...and also, the sun is a ginger's mortal enemy), and most important of all, I have a box of tea in my suitcase. It appears that some stereotypes about the english are true - I don't think I could survive for two weeks without a cup of tea, and i'm not risking drinking what the Americans have to offer!

I guess in a couple of days, we will start to find out how many stereotypes about the deep south are actually true. There are a lot of them - everyone who knows where we're going has an opinion about it, even though most of them have never been to these places. Of course I have my own pre formed opinions too, some good and some bad, but I am going with an open mind and am out to enjoy myself with my gorgeous and wonderful wife and hopefully meet some local people who can talk to us and show us the part of the world they live in.

Music is a huge part of why I agreed to go on this trip. It is very important to me and is the reason I met my wife, and a lot of the music that I love right now comes from the very part of the world we are visiting. I suppose I want to see some of the places and things that have inspired the music that I love so much. That probably seems weird to some people...but I don't really care!

But most importantly of all...I want to eat a big fat greasy burger, some fried chicken, some gumbo, and drink some weak, watery US beer. Oh, and I suppose that I should probably try some fish from the gulf cost...Sian might be a little annoyed if I refuse...and I did promise that I would try to eat different things.

Will we get eaten by an alligator? Possibly. But every day here in England I walk out the house not knowing if I will get attacked by an angry badger, or robbed by a 9 year old who wants my ipod. Both countries have their dangers, but who is to say which is greater?

I think I should probably wrap this up before I start to ramble, although it is likely that I am already rambling, but nevermind. To anyone who reads this, I want you to remember something very important. Over the next two weeks, you will be at work. Myself and Sian will not. We will be several thousand miles away having the time of our lives!

On that note, I shall say goodbye for now before I write even more rubbish. You will be hearing from us very soon...
