A lazy day today that began with packing my bags.  It's a good thing I packed a small duffel bag cause the suitcase is full.  Ha!

At 1pm, I drove over to a lot only a block-and-a-half away.  I spotted the realtor's sign a few days ago.  The grassy lot was 10,000 sq ft, (~65'x150') a block off the coastline facing WSW, and surrounded by a 4' black lava wall.  Quiet street.  It's been for sale well over a year, starting at $1.5M and now listed at $995K.  I'm thinking of a $875K offer and having Trevor design a 2800 sq ft "Frank Lloyd Wright" 2-level house, solar-assisted which is common here, renting out the ground floor 2 suites for $1,000/wk each.  Al can build it!  I need a few investors...

So after that hallucination, I drove 4-5 minutes east over to Poipu State Beach.  Come 4:00, the clouds rolled in so I visited the pub/restaurant across the street for a Longboard Lager and fresh fish & chips take-out.  It's been very windy -- even by Trade Wind standards -- with 25mph winds, gusts up to 40mph.  The radio is airing storm warnings: secure deck furniture, etc.  Wind waves are up to 8' (15-20' high surf on the windward North Shore) with 8-9' swells.

Up early tomorrow for the flights home.  I'm ready.  This trip, although lonely, has been a wonderful shot in the arm and an education: Kauai is the island.  It's authentic.  It's largely escaped the rape by developers so common on the other islands.

There's a gecko on the wall behind my TV....
