This was our free day to fill in the blanks but there weren't many.  Two places we did want to see, however, were the Prehistory Museum of Thera (the old name for Santorini) and the Museum of Thera Archaeology.  Each was small but the pottery and frescoes reached across the centuries.  You saw into the eyes of a statue bust of Aphrodite, or sailed on a naval vessel painted 500 years before the Trojan War.  That stuff moves me.

For the afternoon, we got on a local bus (1.60 Euros) for a trip to the southernmost end of the island, to Red Beach.  It's so-named because of the colour of the lava and gravel beach below the cliffs.  In the summer, it's also the topless beach to hit if you're into that.  (Like duh...)  We befriended yet again 2 more semi-wild cats while waiting for the bus to come back for us; good thing we'd stocked up on DentuBones although they were supposed to be for Tony the dog when we reunited.  We did see Tony when we came back from the volcano island yesterday!  He'd hiked back the 12km from Oia and was hitting on the tourists once again at the Old Port.

Dinner was at a restaurant right in the heart of Fira's shops, a family-run place called Nikolas which was written up as one of the best restaurants.  Unpretentious fresh food for half the price of most restaurants and where locals are known to come, too, always a good sign.

Tonight we're a bit clingy which is the way at the end of a vacation for which you've waited so long to arrive.  I've felt Susan, especially so.  I wanted to tell her, "Don't worry, hon.  There will be more." but somehow it didn't come out.  Maybe tomorrow.

I hope you have enjoyed following us these past 2 weeks.  Through travel I think one sees people of other places living their lives, one meets interesting people when you put yourself out (I have done John proud, chatting up so many folks), and you get to see the beauty of this planet.  Chao.
