Anyway, we are off to Baños tomorrow, and we´ll have time there to upload some pictures. Just wanted to let everyone know we are alive and well. Having fun learning Spanish on the fly. Love to all.
Hey everyone! We are here and alive! So far we are having an amazing time. We arrived in Quito late Thursday night, took a cab to the hotel we thought we were staying at, and found that they didn't have room for us. We wondered around the block and fortunately found a place. We spent most of Friday getting a tour to the Galapagos set up. It took a while, but we found boat that is leaving on Thursday the 8th. Gives us a week to explore Quito and the surrounding areas. We took a walking tour of Quito Friday afternoon (through some parks and into the old colonial part of town). The old part of town was beautiful, narrow streets and French architecture. Today we took a bus 2 hours north to Otavalo, a popular town to visit on Saturday for its large and lively markets. The bus dropped us off on the edge of town, and we wandered down the main street and found the market. Not real hard to spot. We had a great time wandering around, checking out all of the different foods and crafts from hundreds of vendors. On the way back to Quito, we stopped in Cayambe to taste the local "cheese and crackers" (a must see for Nate). In trying to find one of these shops, we stumbled across an old cemetery. Very interesting. We also found ourselves at a bull fight. Tons of great pictures from that. We were definitely the only tourists we saw in the entire town. Great experience.
