Last night we experienced our first South African meal at a first class restaurant (the lady sitting next to us caused quite a stir being a celebrity). We started our meal with crocodile (it tasted a bit like very thin slices of very softly cooked chicken) served with artichoke purée, we followed that with springbok on spinach and then I had a lychee soufflé. Michael (dad) spoilt it a bit by having a chocolate and hazelnut dessert as usual and a glass of port.

This morning we walked to The Castle which is the oldest building in Cape Town and used to be by the sea. These days it is about a mile inland (as they have reclaimed the land to build on). We took the red bus route which took us Table Mountain giving us spectacular views. From there we carried on the red bus and dismounted to walk along the sea front passing some lovely beaches including Camps Bay.

We then picked up the open top red bus to the V and A Waterfront. This is a really good shopping, come eating area alongside the marina. After eating a seafood lunch we took a helicopter ride over Cape Town. Showing Table Mountain, Signal Hill, Lions Head and The Twelve Apostles (although why its called that I am not quite sure as there are 17 peaks) off to their full glory. There was also amazing views of the new football stadium which was built for the last World Cup. The sea is surprisingly cold here for the summer (apparently it is warmer in winter as the strong wind over the peaks blows the warm sea away from the coast and the cold sea rises up!) It was very warm today and we were pleased to head back to the hotel for cool drinks before we head out for a meal this evening. I wonder what we shall eat tonight!
