Our South American excursion is over. We're back in the U.S. after a long 10-hr flight from Rio. It's been a great combination of beautiful scenery, mountains, lakes, and waterfalls, as well as the juxtaposition of European and indigenous cultures. We've covered lots of ground and seen both urban and rural areas, and experienced weather ranging from snow-covered glaciers and volcanoes, to mountain storms, to windswept plateus, to steaming rain forests, to the temperate coast.

We're now in Texas (and it happens to be Independence Day here, where General Sam Houston declared independence from Mexico on Mar 2, 1836) to visit Nathan's sister, brother-in-law, & parents for a few days before heading home. It's great to have drinkable tap water, a real washing machine, and a comfortable bed! Plus, now we can compare Texas steaks to Argentine steaks... We head back to SF on the 6th, and then have 10 days there before taking off again on part 3 of our adventure.
