As we were awake quite early we decided to make the most of the early morning coolness and were on the road for just after 7.30. The plan had been to go back up to Roswell and then head east towards Texas, but over the last couple of days we have noticed more things that are missing from the bus that were available at Discount Auto Parts. So we have decided to go back to Albuquerque.

We arrived in Roswell mid-morning and called at a gas station to get tea, coffee and pastries as due to our unplanned extra night at the last site, we had no milk for breakfast. There was a public phone there too and as we owed a few family members a call, we decided to make use of it. By the time we finished making our calls it was 10.45 and already 96F. Just up the road we stopped at Wal-Mart to stock up with groceries and beer. However, as it's Sunday we weren't allowed to buy alcohol. Nightmare! We're completely out.

From Roswell we headed north east to Fort Sumner where we stopped to have lunch before finding a fuel station. As we drove through the town we spotted the library and although it was Sunday and it was closed, we pulled up outside in an attempt to get a wi-fi signal. Success! So Mel spent the next hour and a half uploading blog and checking email while Neil read and fell asleep!

After a quick fuel stop we were back on the road but not before we got a wave from a Hummer full of soldiers as we left the fuel station. From Fort Sumner it was about an hour's drive north west to Santa Rosa and our camp site at Santa Rosa Lake State Park. We would like to tell you that we relaxed with a few beers but sadly it was just water for us tonight! Whilst we were sat eating dinner, the sun was going down in the west but directly east from us there was a strange glow in the sky which made it appear that it was actually setting in the east. Most bizarre! The affects of years of radiation? Certainly not the effects of alcohol!
