After visits from Joe and Willow to say goodbye and wish us well, we packed up then said goodbye to Butch and Redwood Resort. We cannot stress enough what a great place Redwood Resort is. Friendly, helpful people, beautiful surroundings, excellent facilities, spotlessly clean and good value for money.

Before heading for the coast we needed to pop down to Boulder Creek to pick up something special which took our eye yesterday but we needed to get approval from the "Boys". After thinking about it overnight, they decided that there was room for another troop member. We are pleased to announce the arrival of "Butch" the chimpanzee. Now they are six!

From Boulder Creek we took the road back down to Santa Cruz and then re-joined Highway 1 for the drive up the coast, taking in more stunning coastal scenery with big cliffs and big waves. We had been planning to have a dip in the Pacific before we left the coast, but a sign we saw today put us right off - Water Contaminated! It looked beautiful as well, but you just can't tell!

We stopped for lunch in Half Moon Bay, but passed on what appeared to be their only food supermarket - Safeway. Yes, THE Safeway we used to know in the UK, same logo, everything, except hideously expensive prices.

We arrived at San Francisco RV Resort in Pacifica, approx. 15 miles south of SF. After checking out our spot we popped back out to get our groceries and fuel up. We've discovered another good food store, "Lucky". Lucky we found them is all we can say as they don't advertise the fact that they sell food, someone at the camp-site told us about them. More and more we are discovering that Americans expect you to know what things are, what they are for or where they are. No consideration is given to the fact that you might not be familiar with their town or shops etc.

Back at the site we chilled out with a beer, wrote our blog, then had a very tasty first dinner using our Campingaz Party Grill. A highly recommended bit of kit and a bargain we picked up before leaving the UK.

After dinner, Mel made use of the "spa" (Jacuzzi to us Brits) and we shared some interesting conversation with the other users before turning in for the night.
