Where I stayed
Blue Lagoon Beach Resort

Following a five hour catamaran trip we arrived at our tropical paradise, Nacula island part of the Yasawa group.

We had left booking the accommodation late and struggled to find anything in budget that didn't involve sleeping in a dorm with noisy 18 year olds. One resort seemed to have the answer, the Blue Lagoon Beach Resort had luxury tents available for about 30 a night. I thought we had seen the back of camping when we left NZ, clearly not. I’m not sure I would say they were luxury. It was a bigger version of the tent we had in NZ, you could just about stand up in it. There was a real mattress though, I guess that was the 'luxury’ bit. We had an enclosed area which gave us better mossie protection than any of the more expensive villas did.

Chris, one of the owners of this newly set up resort, had formerly managed the most successful operation in the area and it quickly became apparent why it had done so well. The service was a step up from anywhere I think I’ve ever experienced and the food amazing. There were several activities each day that were genuinely worth doing and most contributed to the local villages on the island in some way.

We got to know our fellow guests quickly through the daily activities, sunset happy hour and at the set menu dinner which was served around 8pm everynight. Neither of us have ever come across such a sociable holiday resort, its a brilliant idea and the dynamic worked really well. It made a great change from just lazing on the beach, it was largely the people we met that made this leg of our trip so memorable!

Fiji was utterly fantastic, a real high point in our trip so far. Our only regret was not getting to see Jone :(
