Got up early on Friday morning, had breakfast in the room, with the stuff I "stole" from breakfast buffet the day before in Adelaide.... taxi to the port of Cairns, headed to the shops to get sunscreen, sun t-shirt and flip-flops. boarded our vessel to Green Island at 10.30 for a 50min. boat ride. Upon arrival, had lunch, booked into our beautiful room, and got into our swimming gear fast! headed to the beach with our snorkelling gear and the kids and Daniel went into the sea to check -out the fish. the water was too cold for me, and lots of wind, making it really chilly for myself. they didn't spot anything, so we moved beaches, (the island is only a 50min walk big!) and they went exploring again. Not much happening then. at 4.30 pm all the tourists left the island and only resort guests get to stay. the beaches became empty and we had the place to ourselves. at 5pm we went to the jetty to see the fish feeding. huge Giant Travelli and other big fish, came to eat right at the surface. I think this is when Aidan realised that this is what he could encounter underwater during one of his snorkelling expeditions..... this is also when the ranger mentioned that if you meet a black reef shark you shouldn't worry.... hmmm.... not too reassuring.... at 5.30 complimentary aperitif on the beach at sunset. at 6.30 wonderful gourmet dinner. 7.45 kids went for a night walk, to spot the geckos, and turtles and any other island wildlife. 9pm lights off for mummy who slept 11 hours until 8 the next morning!!!¨started the day with a fab big breakfast buffet, 9.30 glass bottom boat tour. lots of great big bright fish, and beautiful coral. Aidan felt a lot more confident to know he was sitting behind a glass window looking down. Tarah was very excited! 10.30 snorkelling tour, full lycra suit including, hood, and gloves, to avoid jelly fish stings....+ 1/2 wetsuit and life vest,  fins, mask and tuba. We board a small vessel that takes out to sea. The water is choppy, windy and cold for me... We get to our spot quite a bit away from the island shore. Tarah looks confident, Aidan looks worried not much word coming out from him.. Time to jump in. we put on our fins and mask, Daniel and Tarah jump in first, then Aidan without saying a word and then myself. geared up and ready to confront the cold water... We're barely all in, swim 3 meters from the boat, Aidan looks down into the water, and realises how deep and far we are. His courage has left him and he looks up in a panic, he wants to get back to the boat. Daniel and Tarah continue towards the reef in a choppy water and Aidan and I turn back. He contemplates the sea but admits he does not want to see any big fish or worse.... Daniel and Tarah come back after a 15min snorkel, Daniel suggests he tries again. he builds up his courage, puts his gear on, the crew throw in a floating ring to give him confidence, he swims 5 meters and before I even get in, he's turning back again. He's just not ready for the big fish encounter. Daniel and Tarah keep going for another 20min, seeing lots of interesting fish and coral, before heading back to the boat and back to the beach. It was a great experience for Tarah and she really enjoyed it. Aidan might still be a little young or it might just not be his cup of tea. We finished the day at the beach and the underwater observatory. After dinner we went for a night walk and saw at least a dozen turtles from the jetty. some were really big, at least 50-60 yrs old. Incredible to see so many in one place. The next morning we snorkeled some more, I even got into the water with a wet suit and then we took the 12.00 boat to Cairns to pick-up our Campervan. Bye-bye Luxury, hello camping!!!!
