Where I stayed
BiBs International Backpackers
A very happy Christmas to everyone from the town where the hippos roam the backstreets at night!
Had a cool first day here kayaking among the crocodiles with my new chums Paul and Nigel from the Baz Bus. No pictures unfortunately (forgot the camera - tsheesh), but I can guarantee that we got v v close to the crocodiles who took something of an unhealthy interest in the flimsy plastic sea kayaks. Anyhow, fortunately we all made it back to dry land unscathed and unbitten in time for a nice fire on the beach.
The five nights I stayed at BiBs (International Backpackers) simply flew by, helped along by a heady mix of cheap alcohol, friendly staff (especially the fantastic Sandile) and a crowd of crazy Dutchies - Frank, Matt (aka Freak of Nature), Innes and the lovely Emiel. I had the pleasure of becoming an honorary Nederlander on a trip to Tembe Elephant Park and Sodwana Coral Reserve in Paul's bakkie together with other neo-Dutchies, Dave and Lisa. The trip upto the hide where we saw the amazing sight of a family of elephants drinking at a waterhole, not to mention the elephant which destroyed a tree RIGHT IN FRONT OF US has to be one of the highlights of the holiday so far, together with an awesome Christmas Eve night. It was a shame to have to drag myself away on Christmas day just as the warthog was being loaded onto the fire....
OK - that's it for now - onwards and downwards...
