We went on an organised tour to Fraser Island today (tried to get the Hummer tour but sold out, we usually hate organised tours and frequently end up doing a runner) by coach and ferry.
Surprisingly it was really good,
We were taken on the ferry to the Island and the first stop was a walk through the Rain Forrest, our guide was a cranky old retired Aussie who also hated the other tours so he made sure we were first to all the stops and no-one dared to be late. The Rain Forrest tour was interesting, there are 20 species of snakes and only 4 non venomous! Dingos also roam the Forrest and Beaches, the Ants were giants!
The main Highway on the Island is the 70 mile beach, it was quite cool driving down the surf.
After lunch we stopped at a Ship Wreck and some coloured sand, spent some time at the Creek that ran into the Sea, unable to swim in the sea as the Island is surrounded by Sharks, you also get a few salt water Crocs..!
The best part of the day was the swim in Lake Mckenzie, fresh water lake crystal clear blue water and white sand like talcum powder.
Took the ferry back leaving a poor guy and his 4X4 stuck in the mud flats trying desperately to dig himself out before the tide came in.
