Flag of Thailand  , Krabi Province,
Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Though we arrived yesterday, today was our first full day in Ao Nang, in the Krabi province of southern Thailand. Ao Nang is a seaside community with a sprawl of hotels, backpacker dorms, eateries and of course vendors…..let's not forget those vendors who seek to stall your walking stride by asking you whether you want a Tuk Tuk ride, a massage or a custom made suit, but it’s all good, forces us to interact with the community.

Ao Nang is known for its beautiful beaches and lush jungle….seems like anywhere outside of Bangkok has lush jungles.

The key to Thailand’s many destination sites, is to booking tours.  There is no shortage of brokers offering you tours of all types, and like anything else in this part of the world, everything is negotiable….after all, they are brokers.   We booked a 4-island speed boat tour; speed boat relative to the longtail boats.  The tour took us to Phranang Cave Beach, Chicken Island, Tup Island, and Poda Island for some swimming and a picnic lunch; see the pictures for more details.  The water is so blue and the perfect temperature for leisure swims.

During this trip, we had the opportunity to share some time with a Thai couple with their son who is currently enrolled in Yale’s School of Music.  The couple are Thai journalists who appear to be prolific figures given the dad’s constant name dropping of who they knew, hobnobbed with or who they were supposed to have dinner with (a certain incumbent U.S. President running for re-election) .
Our day concluded with meeting with a wedding planner to confirm the details of our vow renewals tomorrow.
