We got a late start heading down to Ko Chang because we were waiting for our laundry to be returned. Rather than taking a tourist bus, we had to take a government bus that involved a number of connections to get to the ferry pier, but we managed to make it there anyway. We took the last ferry of the night along with 4 Brits who had come that morning from Cambodia, and we decided to follow them to Lonely Beach on the southwest side of the island. Ko Chang is a fairly large island off the southeast coast of Thailand, and most of the island is a national park covered with thick vegetation. We didn't know this until the next day, however, because we arrived at night and it was extremely dark, despite the incredible view of the stars. In the morning, when the rain finally stopped, we discovered how beautiful the place was. There isn't really much to tell from here, because we spent most of the time sitting on the beach and just admiring how beautiful it was. Palm trees, white sands, crystal clear blue-green water--paradise. The hotel where we stayed was pretty much a backpacker-style resort, with a restaurant, a TV and a large DVD collection, a beach bar, and a whole bunch of backpackers who wanted nothing more than to hang out on the beach. We did rent motorbikes for a day, and, after we learned to ride them, went for a ride around the island to see one of the waterfalls in the park. It was the kind of place where time passes very easily, and three days was not nearly enough.
