Yesterday a group of us went to an eco-friendly 3-hectare farm 10 minutes outside of town nestled near the mountains. The place is called "balay-buhay" which literally means "house-life". The place is a privately owned bee farm but it also has a small collection of the region's flora and fauna. They farm two different kinds of honey. One type of honey from the kiwot stingless bee is used by doctors as a natural antibiotic (I bought a bottle of it). The other type is just your regular honey. The owner doesn't advertise it as a commercial business and likes to keep it a secret. Only close friends and families can actually go there and enjoy it. One can spend the day there and have them prepare a delicious lunch all made from ingredients grown in the farm including fish from their pond.
There's also a swimming pool filled with cold water coming directly from the nearby volcano. It really is a place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of your life surrounded by nature.
After visiting this place, we headed out to Bulusan Lake - another 5 minute ride. We went kayaking there for $2/half hour. It's even more beautiful and serene once you get in the middle of the lake. You hear nothing but the sound of nature in the nearby woods.
