So today I entered my last country of my travels (already??) as I crossed from Botswana into Zambia. In fact at this particular point is once of the only places in the world where 4 countries meet, in this case Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The falls were renamed by David Livingstone and was the only western name he gave anything (and was done so to honour the British Queen). Orignally the falls were called Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning "the smoke that thunders", and that it did, even in the dry season!!
It was really impressive to watch the (what is very calm upstream) Zambezi river tumble over the 109 metre drop and watch the clouds of vapour come up. This was accentuated at sunset when the "smoke" was surrounded by a reddy-orange glow!!
I can certainly see why it is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world!!
(and meant I crossed another item off my bucket list!)
- a great way to finish off my 8 months of travels!
