Where I stayed
We been up into the Tongario National Park, which has very different vegetation from everything else I've seen so far, much more shrubby and alp like with a smattering of volcanic rocks here and there! There are 3 volcanoes in the park and Mount Ngauruhoe was used as Mount Doom in the LOTR films, and the surrounding very volcanic area was used as Mordor.
Ive also been to the jewellery maker who designed and made the One Ring (in fact made about 40 of varying sizes including one of 8 inches in diameter!!). They have a large on (about 5cm diameter) on display and a smaller one, along with aragorn's and gandalf's rings. You can buy them but none have the inscription on as it was digitally put on in post production as it wasn't visible all the time in the books!
