Where I stayed
Most relaxing vacation we've had ever! All-inclusive is the ONLY way to go for a vacation like this where not much sight seeing is in the itinerary. We had all the food and drinks we could manage plus the non-motorized water sports such as snorkeling and Hobie windsail. We could have kayaked but didn't get around to it. The nightly entertainment was cheesy but fun (cheesy made it fun!). The wait staff couldn't have been more friendly, attentive and helpful. I couldn't believe how hard they worked to please everyone there.
For sightseeing, we went to see the dolphins, went to the Tulum ruins and went to the Grand Cenotes for snorkeling. Very peaceful there. We also went to Playa Del Carmen for shopping but bought hardly anything as it was WAY over priced. On the day of our Tulum excursion, we hired a private taxi which was very reasonable (Tino) and he took us to an out-of-the-way shop where practically every souvenir was for sale and was very, very cheap (after bartering).
The only thing I didn't care for were the evening vendors at the resort itself as they were a bit pushy. Oh, and the overweight topless lady we could have done without. For some reason, the topless gals came out in full force the last day we were there. Everything else was perfect.
Meeting people was really fun. Met some fairly bleary-eyed folks in the Margarita Pool Bar but hey, that was part of the experience. Met a really fun English guy and his family (from Birmingham I think) named Paul Harris. We had some fun conversations with him.
