Landing at the Vancouver airport before 1:30pm, we had plenty of time to relax and have a light meal at Milestones Restaurant while waiting to board the British Airways overnight flight to Britain. We also enjoyed browsing the shops and viewing the large aquarium and recent renovations in the Vancouver airport.
At our boarding gate we met our travel companions Roy and Karen, who had come over by ferry. We also met briefly with Maureen and Mark, friends and fellow CAMRA members from Victoria, who were also going to Britain, but on a different flight.
Our overnight flight to Heathrow airport (near London, England) was scheduled to leave at about 6pm, but was almost an hour late leaving Vancouver. We traveled with Karen and Roy and sat together in the four seats in the center row on the fully booked Boeing 747. Roy and I had aisle seats. We had hoped to get a little sleep during the overnight flight, but even with some mild tranquilizers it didn't happen. It's just too hard to sleep sitting up on a plane. So we watched movies, including War Horse, on the tiny screens in the head rest in front of us and read our books.
Our flight over the Arctic lasted about 9 hours, and as we were traveling east we had to add on 8 hours time difference. It was a long flight!
