Sept. 10: Left home this morning about 8:00, loaded to the 'Gills'. After a short stop-off in Florence, we hit the 'YANKEE DRAGSTRIP' aka I-95, headed north. Stopped off in Fayetteville, NC for fuel up and a lucious lunch of vienna sausage & cheese crackers, washed down with a generous 'GULP' of Propel Grape Water. We turned off I-95 and headed through the backwoods toward Franklin, VA, our first day's destination. The only gas station close to our exit was closed down and the next 30 miles was spent praying that we'd find a gas station before the 'FUEL' warning light came on. We passed up the only gas station in Garysburg, NC, because we didn't like the looks of the clientele, nor the price of fuel. According to the GPS info data bank there were no gas stations in our path for quite a ways. We decided to be brave and turn back for Garysburg and get gas. While Dianne went inside to pay (no pay at the pump at this joint), I pumped gas, guarded the bike, & stood close to our concealed protection. As she got onto the bike, I thought I heard the theme song to "DELIVERANCE" playing somewhere close. WE GOT THE HECK OUT OF GARYSBURG!!!....with a full tank of.....well, I hope it was gas.
We traveled through some very pretty countryside & got a lot of friendly greetings from passerbys in the communities that we rode through until arriving at Franklin, VA at 4:00 pm. We stayed at the Super 8 Motel (1599 Armory Drive, Franklin, VA) The manager & staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was immaculate & well stocked. Our stay here was excellent.
We were told by the manager, of a quaint little eating establishment downtown on Main Street called Fred's.   Kind of plain on the outside, but the decor inside was far from plain. IT WAS A SPECIAL TREAT!!!  The owner, Mr. Fred (91 yrs. old) and his son (David) greeted us and sat and talked with us until our meal came.  The establishment had a bar on one side and a dining room area on the other and a very "CHEERS" type atmosphere. Shortly after you walk in, they make you feel like you are old friends and hate to see you go   ........Think we'll go back for breakfast in the morning!!!  No Worries, It's All Good!
