Auberge barge: un mois de fête...
Crazy hostel: partying for a month...

Quand je suis arrivé à Melbourne j'avais quelques pistes pour mon logement, selon deux critères: il ne fallait pas que ça coûte trop cher, et je ne voulais pas rester dans le centre. J'avais trouvé sur le Net une auberge à Prahran, un des suburbs de Melbourne proche de St Kilda, relié au centre-ville par une ligne de métro, donc j'y ai tenté ma chance. Ça a été une vraie galère d'y aller, de transport en commun en transport en commun, et je me suis retrouvé dans le métro à l'heure de pointe avec tout mon barda! Une fois descendu il a fallu marcher un bon moment, mais enfin j'y suis arrivé. :)
L'auberge est un peu déglinguée, un peu sale, beaucoup bordélique, et à part quelques heures par jour ce sont plus ou moins les habitants qui font tout. Donc de certains côtés c'était le chaos, mais qu'est-ce que je me suis marré! Il y avait des idiots bien sûr, mais il y avait des gens très marrants, alors l'ambiance était excellente. Et quasiment tous les soirs il y avait la fête, toute raison était bonne pour rire! Après Sydney, ce fut un vrai plaisir de me retrouver là... Et puis étant hors du centre c'est bien plus calme, avec une ambiance de village un peu, donc parfait pour moi.
Un des premiers trucs que j'ai faits en arrivant à Melbourne a été de visiter un peu. Je n'étais pas dans une mentalité photo à ce moment-là, donc je n'ai presque rien de la ville, mais c'est bien mieux que Sydney à mon avis! Mais surtout, ce que j'ai fait très rapidement, c'est la Great Ocean Road.
La Great Ocean Road, c'est une route à proximité de Melbourne qui se promène le long de l'océan, comme son nom l'indique. Il y a une variété de paysages, de végétation et d'animaux incroyable, alors c'est un dépaysement complet et un vrai bonheur. J'ai pris un tour de 2 jours sur cette route, un peu mieux que le tour standard d'une journée avec 14h de route. C'était vraiment vraiment chouette, je vous laisse regarder les photos! Et j'ai même fait un tour d'hélicoptère au-dessus des 12 Apôtres... :)
Après ça et bien j'ai fini par avoir des pistes pour des boulots, dont un à Canberra qui a l'air assez sérieux. J'ai aussi continué à visiter un peu, en particulier je suis allé au Melbourne Museum, principalement je dois admettre pour voir le premier ordinateur d'Australie. :)
Enfin, après un mois à Melbourne et un entretien sur place, je vais filer à Canberra comme il semblerait que ça fonctionne assez bien, et on verra là-bas. Je prends un risque, parce qu'il me reste à peine suffisament de sous pour rentrer au Canada, alors j'espère vraiment que ça va marcher!

When I arrived in Melbourne I had a few ideas for accomodation, with two criterias: not too expensive, and I didn't want to stay in the downtown. I had found on the Net a hostel in Prahran, one of Melbourne's suburbs and close to St Kilda, and connected to the downtown by a train line, so I decided to try my luck there. It's been a real struggle to get there, from public transport to public transport, and I found myself at rush hour in the train will all my luggage! Once out of the train I had to walk quite a while, but I finally got there. :)
The hostel is a bit run down, a bit dirty, very chaotic, and except for a few hours a day it's pretty much the guests who do everything. So on one hand it was a mess, and on the other one it was a lot of fun! There were stupid people of course, but there were also very funny people, so the ambiance was excellent. And almost every evening there was a party, any reason was good to have a laugh! After Sydney, it's been a real pleasure to be there... And being outside of the downtown it was much quieter, with a village feeling, so much better for me.
The first thing I did in Melbourne was to have a look around. I wasn't in a picture-taking mood at that point so I have almost no picture of the city, but in my opinion it's much nicer than Sydney! Most importantly one of the things I did very quickly was the Great Ocean Road.
The Great Ocean Road, it's a road near Melbourne alongside the ocean, as you had guessed from its name. :) There's an incredibly diverse range of sights, nature and crazy wildlife, so it's a real change of scenery and it's great! I took the two-day tour, a bit better than the 1-day one with 14 hours on the road... It was really great, just have a look at the pictures. And I went for an helicopter ride above the 12 Apostles! :)
After that, well I've found leads for some jobs, including one in Canberra that looks quite serious. I also kept on sightseeing, including a visit to the Melbourne Museum, mostly, I must admit, to see Australia's first computer. :)
Finally, after a month in Melbourne and an interview there, I'll move to Canberra as it seems to be working quite well, and we'll see over there how it goes. It's a risk as I barely have enough money to move back to Canada right now, so I really hope it'll pay in the end!
