Roadrunner's Paradise Rock & Motor Club

I stumbled upon an event listing for a concert that looked like it might be worth checking out on my first night in Berlin. After about 24 hours of travel and a few Pilsners, Anna and I ventured out into the snowy night to the Louisiana Rhythm Club - Johnny Cash Tribute Night at Roadrunner's Paradise Rock & Motor Club.  Just 2.5 miles from our hotel, the club is located in a sweet, back-alley block in some kind of old mechanic's shop. I loved everything about this place from the German Rockabilly goodness to the super kitschy toilet seat. They had an old gondola shoved into the wall that they used for the sound booth. It had a huge old chevy bumper in it that the sound board was mounted on and it was all covered with tins of cool vintage crap. You just can't make this shit up!

There were all types of people here from the young rockabilly ladies with tattoos and Betty Page hairdos to old farts like me. The crowd had a great vibe. Anna ordered us a shot of tequila and it came with a orange wedge that was sprinkled with cinnamon. It was actually quit good.

Then there was the band... German dudes channeling Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins & Johnny Cash. They would seamlessly transition to German banter between songs reminding us of crazy stew of Americana nostalgia mixed with industrial East Berlin architecture and jovial German Hipsters.

We hung out for a set and a few beers, ventured back on the metro with brisk walk in the snow. I can honestly say my first night in Europe could not have been better!
