Where I stayed
Canyon Lake Corps of Engineers park
A bit off the beaten path, but a beatiful (and cheap) overnighter at another COE campground. Right on the water. Cleary skies, a light breeze. We're in the Texas hill country at last. What could go wrong? Oh, so Lucy bit me HARD on my right index finger as I tried to pry out a rotting fish ball that she found on the shore, and it bled profusely, and we had a well stocked medicine chest with no alcohol or hyd. peroxide, and I was going to be dead of Lockjaw in 48 hours, so what? (When was my last tetanus shot? Did my jaw hurt a little the next morning? Nah. Great spot to overnight, and we woke up the next a.m. (fog and light mist) to drive over the back country hills through Fredericksburg TX (birthplace of WW II Fleet Admiral Nimitz, I think) and hooked up on I-10 for the long, long slog across central and west Texas to Carlsbad NM. Here are a few pix of Canyon Lake. Check out the deer herd in the foreground of one or two of them.
