Crack of dawn (for real) and we pack the car and head home to Lovettsville. Casey has purchased a new book on Road Food. I find a likely spot in Staunton, VA which just happens to be where we will be passing at lunch time. A minor detour and we find this venue. Three years before Ray Kroc began franchising McDonald's, Wright's Dairy Rite of Staunton, Virginia, started serving Superburgers. Two beef patties with cheese and lettuce, topped with special sauce and layered in a triple-decker bun, this monumental hamburger is still served as it was in 1952 – by car hops at the window of your vehicle in a car slip at the side of the restaurant.
Casey and I went inside where we sat at a booth that required us to pick up a telephone to place our order and our "car hop" arrived later with our meal. We shared a Superburger, fresh home made onion rings and a malted chocolate shake. No, I was not so much on my diet this week.
