I got up extra early in preparation for my nerve-racking chance to play arguably the best public golf course in the world (at least top 3 by anyone's book). Anyone can play it, but is financially straining for any rational human being.. but I couldn't pass up this once-in-a-lifetime chance.

I wanted to hit a ton of balls and work on the short-game beforehand.. so I got there 3 hours early. They drove me in a van to the practice range.. which is being acutely manicured in preparation for the US Open (a MAJOR event) which they host here in a month. They have a perfect patch of grass off-limits to everyone.. awaiting Tiger and Phil and everyone else next month.

At the practice range 3 hours before tee off, I hit it off with a lady, her husband, and his brother.. as they are from San Diego.. thinking they were going to tee off soon... but we realized towards the end we were all teeing off at the same time.  I thought I was the only one crazy enough to get there 3 hours early. Was good getting to know the group before the first tee.. one less thing to be nervous about.

As I said the US Open is here in a month.. so the starter warned us they've already narrowed the fairways and raised the rough to make it more difficult for the pros... so the course was very challenging. It was a perfect day though with relatively calm winds, very sunny, and was around 65 degrees.

Long story short.. all 4 of us had a caddy.. so there was 8 of us out there.. having fun.. cracking jokes.. in a picturesque setting.. and in the process I was hitting the ball the best I ever have in my life! Wherever the caddy told me to put the ball.. I put it there.. and shot a 4 over on the front (the greens gave me some trouble.. or would have done much better). I hit some of the best shots of my life and what a perfect venue to do it on! I fell apart a bit on the back 9.. but oh well it was inevitable.

We finished off with a few drinks in the Stillwater Bar at the Lodge.. and that capped off one of the most fun and memorable days of my life. Was worth every single dollar.
