So we were up at 5.45am to pack up camp and set off on a tough 17km hike to the next water source.  This was going to be a hard day.  Andy was concerned it would take us 11 hours and I was already having anxiety attacks about Logan Creek, but he had just about persuaded me to continue.   Unfortunately it had rained in the night - a lot and was still raining.  Add to that, we had left the groundsheet pegged out and it had acted as the perfect conduit for all the rain running down the front of the tent.  So upon waking we discovered a big pool of water in the tent porch, and our back packs were sitting right in the middle of it.  Having absorbed most of the water our packs were completely sodden (so twice as heavy) and the rain was still coming down.  yay!!!  It was pretty much the last straw for me.  It was meant to be a holiday for God's sake.A combination of nightmares about the ladders at Logan Creek and a slow puncture in my mattress meant that I hadn't slept and the thought of the tough section of the trail to come being wet, REALLY muddy and the ladders wet and slippery was too much for me.  Although we had enough food, we didn't have surplus water tablets to take it slowly and I had visions of getting stuck half way up a ravine and having to be rescued.  So we reluctantly came to a decision, rather than walk for 11 hours in the rain with wet packs we decided to spend the day hiding from the rain in the lee of a cliff, building a bush kitchen and generally drying everything out and then tomorrow, head back the way we had come rather than attempt the rest of the trail.   We sat by the fire and slowly dried out.  We were not in good spirits.  It is not is either of our natures to give up.
