Well,
Our adventures continue... We finished one of the best hikes in the world yesterday, the Milford Track. It was 3 nights and 4 days. Usually, you receive rain at least one of the days, but we walked the entire track with only a little mist the last couple of hours. There was an alpine ascent/desent that would of been a bit tricky if it was flooded over. We did discover that if the track becomes flooded you might get a free helicopter ride out or at least to the next dry spot... same treatment for an injury (they probably take you to a hospital or something). No pictures to post right now, but hopefully eventually we will be able to share a few.
The track is done by a variety of people; some newbies and a few veterans. It was interesting to see the different ways people pack and what they eat. James and I went a bit fancy on the food, but didn't bring that much with us in gear. The first day was a short 5km hike so we brought wine, fajitas for dinner, and eggs for the next breakfast. we got a few odd looks for our dinning choices, but hey you got to live it up if you can.
We spent last night at the Milford Lodge and will be catching our Stray bus today back to Te Anau for a night. After that we begin our journey back up the east coast (Christchurch, Kaikoura, and then to Pah Rd again). It feels odd to have 3 weeks left and being excited to come home... most people don't get to enjoy this much time here. We still have a few things we are looking forward to; visiting some old friends, making new ones, and checking out the Bay of Islands for some last bit of sun before returning home.
We look forward to seeing everyone at home again and making some money instead of spending it.... we may need to ease into the work thing. Take care and see ya soon!
